Cancer Society 2026 National Research Grant Round is now open

The Cancer Society is pleased to announce that the 2026 National Research Grant Round is now open, supporting high-quality, impactful research across the full cancer continuum. This year provides three complementary funding opportunities designed to strengthen Aotearoa New Zealand’s cancer research system:
Postdoctoral Fellowships (up to $300,00) continuing to invest in early career researchers
Robert McClelland Fellowship ($150,000) supporting early career researchers who already have secured partial funding
Clinical Trials Access Project Grant (up to $300,000) improving access to clinical trials
Researchers are encouraged to learn more about the grants and how they connect to our new national strategy.

NEW - 'Meet our Researchers' Series

Welcome to our new series, ‘Meet our researchers,’ which travels across the motu profiling the mahi our cancer researchers are involved in.

Meet our first researcher Dr Hossein Jahedi, a cancer researcher in Auckland with an incredible way to explain very technical research in very relatable ways.

Te Pūao Mātai Pupupuku NZSO strongly supports collaboration. The hopes of this series is to enlighten and bring together cancer researchers to support the advancement of knowledge in all aspects of oncology.

2026 New Zealand Skin Cancer Summit

19–20 June 2026 • Wellington

Join us for the first Summit under our new name, Skin Cancer NZ (formerly MelNet). We’re bringing the sector together to strengthen how New Zealand prevents, detects and treats all forms of skin cancer while ensuring care is equitable and accessible for everyone.

Under the theme Equity in Action: Bridging Gaps for Skin Cancer, the programme features keynote presentations, interactive panels and skills-based workshops showcasing innovative research, real-world strategies and collaborative solutions.

The Summit begins with two optional half-day workshops on Thursday 18 June:

  • Skin Surgery Masterclass (morning)
  • Advanced Dermoscopy Masterclass (afternoon – only a few spaces remaining)

The main conference follows on 19–20 June.
